Fundacion Dorina Nowil for Blind has been working with social inclusion of the visual impaired for more than six decades, through education and culture, producing books in braille, talking books and magazines, and academic works in Accessible Digital format. This material is distributed free of charge to the visual impaired and to hundreds of schools, libraries and organizations all over the country.!
We believe that education is the best way for social inclusion, and broaden this opportunity to thousands of visual impaired all over Brazil depends on you too!
We produce books in Braille, talking books and in Accessible Digital format which are distributed free of charge to the visual impaired and to hundreds of schools, libraries and organizations all over Brazil.
THE BRAILLE BOOK
Thousands of pages of didactic-pedagogic, para-didactic and literary books and specific works ordered by the visual impaired are produced in Braille every year.
We are a Braille press with the largest production in Latin America and one of the world’s references in production quality and complexity. Blind students all over the country use books produced at Fundação Dorina Nowill – an honor for the employees involved in the production of those books.
TALKING BOOKS AND MAGAZINES
We produce, in talking format, didactic books, literature, best-sellers and the magazines Veja and Claudia, besides other specific works by demand.
Fundacon Dorina Nowill for Blind’ Talking Book Circulating Library has a collection of more than 859 titles in audio of several authors, from Brazilian literature classics to international best-sellers. This service is available and free of charge to the visual impaired all over Brazil
LIDA – DIGITAL ACCESSIBLE BOOK
Besides the text in audio, the user with subnormal vision can visualize the contents in up to 5 levels of screen enlargement. The tool has tutorial and search resources by word or sentence, optional footnotes, text markers, spelling, whole reading of abbreviations and signs, and also the correct pronunciation of foreign words, among others.

Fundação Dorina prints the book The Kite Runner
The
Kite Runner, book that has already touched the heart of more than 500
thousand readers in Brazil, is already considered one of the favorite
best-sellers in the last years. This book is about the friendship
between Amir e Hassan, two boys of the same age, who live very
different lives in Afghanistan in the 1970’s. Amir is rich, a bit
coward, and always after his father’s consent. Hassam, who
can’t read or write, is known by his courage and goodness. Both
of them, however, are crazy for ancient stories of great warriors,
American cowboy movies and kites. During a kite championship in the
winter of 1975 Hassam gives Amir the chance to be a great man, but he
doesn’t see his redemption. After throwing away the last chance,
Amir goes to the United Stated, running away from the soviet invasion
in Afghanistan, but twenty years later Hassam and his blue kite make
him go back to his homeland to settle accounts with the past.
A The Beatles unpublished recording will be auctioned in England
A British auction company will
sell a tape with the Beatles talking and laughing during a recording
section in the beginning of their career.
